Top Player Again Wins World Championship in Women’s Boxing

DPRK player Pang Chol Mi bagged a gold medal in the ５２kg category at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships ２０２５.

The news of that stirred up the whole country which is opening up a new phase of overall development of the state.

She, who won a gold medal in the ５１kg category at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships ２０１８, is a veteran twice world champion as a result of winning championships in ２０１８ and ２０２５.

Pang Chol Mi is asked what had encouraged her to display the indomitable spirit.

She was born into an ordinary farmer’s family in Jongju City.

When she was little, she was praised by the villagers for her good singing, but she would dream of being an athlete.

Pang, with a determination to bring glory to the motherland with gold medals like Kye Sun Hui who won fame at the World Judo Championships, came to a sports school in Jongju City.

Then, an instructor advised her to do boxing rather than judo in consideration of her physical characteristics.

From then on, she began to learn boxing.

She, every day, ran to the sports school １５ miles far away from her house, declining to live in a dormitory.

She tried to actively make chances for physical training.

For her prominence as a boxer at national sports games, she was called to a sports team.

After her success in the １８th Asian Games, she won gold medals in the ５１kg category at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships ２０１８, and at the １９th Asian Games.

But last year, she received a bronze medal in the women’s boxing at the ３３rd Olympic Games.

This made her guilty, but she made up her mind to repay with gold medals the Party and the state which put forward her as a People’s Athlete.

At the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships ２０２５, Pang Chol Mi was at the center of attention of boxing circles.
