Promulgation of Agrarian Reform Law, Historic Event in 1946

March 5 in 1946 is the historic day when the peasants in Korea realized their century-old dream to cultivate their own land.

President Kim Il Sung, who gave primary importance to the agrarian problem in the struggle for building up a new country after Korea’s liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, made a great effort to meet the centuries-old aspiration of peasantry for land.

To settle the agrarian problem in conformity with the peasants’ demand and interests, the President inspected various places including Taedong County in South Phyongan Province and acquainted himself in detail with the situation in rural areas and demand of landless peasants.

Then he set the objects of land confiscation and methods of land confiscation and its distribution.

On the basis of this, the President promulgated the Agrarian Reform Law.

Under the guidance of the President, the agrarian reform was carried out so successfully that the peasants could be freed from all kinds of exploitation, and on this land the new history, that the peasants became the masters of land and country, was begun.

Now we greet a great era of our style of socialist rural development thanks to the gigantic plan of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

The respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un, at the 4th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK, underscored the need to powerfully speed up rural revolution with confidence and optimism, turn all the farms in the country into socialist paradise wonderful enough to be proud of in the world and realize centuries-old desire and ideal of the people as soon as possible, clarifying detailed tasks and ways for doing so.

The proud realities such as successive housewarmings across the country make us believe in the rosier future which the agricultural workers realize their dreams to enjoy more civilized life with nothing to envy.
