Devotion for Motherland and People on His Birthdays
Every year our people significantly celebrate February 16, the birthday of Chairman
But, for the Chairman, the day was an ordinary day of devotion to the country and people.
On the morning of February 16, 1999, he set out on-site inspection of units of the Korean People’s Army (KPA).
That day, visiting a women’s sub-unit in a mountain, he looked round various places to take warm care of their living conditions lest they should feel any slight inconvenience before leaving the sub-unit. That afternoon he guided the skiing exercise of soldiers and their families at the field training ground of another sub-unit of the KPA.
When he returned to his lodging quarters at nightfall, he told officials that he spent that day with soldiers, adding that it was his pleasure to spend days for the soldiers and people and such days were his holidays. Then he discussed the ways to bring about a radical turn in potato farming and improve the people’s diet while having a supper with potato food together with officials.
As a result, on his birthday of that year, he discussed the potato farming of the country and the people’s diet even at the time for supper.
His birthday was always spent like this.
Among his birthdays were a day when he taught officials one by one the issues arising in improving the people’s living standard for a long time, saying that it is the supreme principle of our Party’s activities to steadily improve the people’s living standard and a day when he gave instructions to improve the living standard of the citizens of the capital by operating the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory at full capacity and running well the stock farms in Pyongyang Municipality.
Indeed, the Chairman’s whole life was the noble revolutionary career of the benevolent father who devoted his all solely to the motherland and people.
